Airborne…. A Brief History

Providing aircraft charter services for over 25 years.

Airborne Energy Solutions is an aviation charter company based in Western Canada that has been providing professional aircraft charter services for over 25 years to the resource Industry and various government agencies since its formation on October 31, 1985.  The founding Directors attribute the company’s steady growth from a privately owned, single helicopter operation to one of the largest operators in Canada due to the strong relationships the company has formed over the years with Canadian and International oil & gas producers in Western Canada.

This important relationship began in the mid 1980’s when the founding owners formed “Aerial Recon Surveys Ltd” based out of Whitecourt, Alberta.  The initial fleet of aircraft was comprised of one Robinson RH22 helicopter and one Cessna 177 aircraft.

These aircraft were used to provide aerial pipeline leak detection surveys for oil & gas producers in central Alberta. The company experienced a period of rapid growth over the next four years in both fixed and rotor wing services and grew to a fleet of twenty (20) helicopters and three (3) fixed wing airplanes.

In the late 1990s, Airborne saw an even greater period of growth with the aircraft complement consisting of forty plus helicopters and six (6) fixed wing aircraft.

Today, Airborne operates a diverse fleet of more than 60 helicopters and fixed wing planes.
